Here is a great way to promote your clan and give your members something extra! Clan events can be run for any purpose and often improve general moral while at the same time encouraging recruitment and retention. It isn’t a very complex concept, but let me share some tips and tools with you here…
Nature of Your Event:
The first step in creating a clan event is to figure out what you want to do, this could be anything from a holiday server event (Halloween Zombie Bash on the FISH Server!) to a Forum game (Scavenger Image Hunt- First to post all 100 pictures wins!). The goal as a clan is to improve member activity and recruit new members, thus improving your teams size and popularity. Predetermine your events rules and workings so that when you post and advertise about the event you have everything ready for visitors. Also, stay ahead of the game in time. You want to make sure that everyone has enough time to find out about the event, prepare for the event and attend.
Advertise Your Event:
Don’t forget to advertise! All community sites will welcome your clan’s activity, many other clan related sites (Like TribeHaven) also welcome clan events, and you can often post on other clan websites about your event (If they know you)! Again your goal as a clan is to bring in the traffic and meet new gamers, so the more you put a message out the bigger the response.
Prizes & Rewards:
A great way to get more traffic, get better activity, and make a memorable impression is to offer up prizes or rewards for your participants. Prizes and rewards can be anything, and just the fact that you are offering them steps your team up a notch. The value isn’t always the attention getter, so think outside of the box.
Offering up a special announcement, custom signatures, or even forum treats (access, awards, ect.) will go along way for current clan members, but to grab the attention of outside gamers you may want to offer other prizes. Offering a free voice server, a bit of web hosting, or server time can draw in new or young clans.
Cash prizes, Custom Clan gear, or actual games and merchandise will draw a larger crowd from the general public. Often this option is avoided based on cost, but here is one of many methods to help you earn prize material without having to pay for it:
SwagBucks allows you to earn virtual dollars towards products on their site, they only want you to use their search tools. Pass around the search tools to your team and build a collective pot for the purchase of prizes!
You can also use a collective cash prize… Everyone who enters pays $1, all proceeds go to the winner!
Run Your Event:
Run your event in the most organized and professional manner possible. The better the organization and operation of the event the more entertaining it will be for those who are participating. When you make the rules and determinations for winners be as just and open as possible. Post results and updates as much as possible where applicable.
Be the sportscaster for your event, go back to where you promoted the event and post results and comments, congratulate the winners, post screenshots and links!
Lats time… The goal here is the betterment of your clan, promoting your team, recruiting for your team, improving activity and morale. Don’t loose sight of that, your team expects it.
