The Most Valuable Asset

The one thing I see most clan leaders, and some clan members forget is the simple fact that clans are PEOPLE. They are not websites, servers, or stats. Clans are by their very nature organized groups of like-minded people. More than anything else they are people, here is some proof…

Have you ever seen a clan that didn’t have:

  • A website
  • A server
  • A specific game they play
  • A forum
  • A set of rules
  • A leader

If you answered YES, then you already have a clue. Now try to imagine a clan without people. No such thing, even the brand new clan with only the founder in it has the one person, and whatsmore that one person is looking for (You Guessed it!) other people to join his team. In the greater gaming world teams have a lot of things to gather and build, but nothing has more virtual weight than members. The people who make up your team are vastly important, and in one gamers opinion, the most valuable asset you have.

People often bring a lot more to your team than just another gamer adding to the teams score. You will find that all people have some hidden talent that adds value and style to a team, even the young and new-to-gaming 14 years old can add a sense of youthful joy and humor to an otherwise dull forum. The 54 year old grandfather may bring years of project management skills from a career in construction. The 28 year old mother of three could certainly provide a special wisdom in dealing with conflicts and resolutions within the team.

Take pride in the diverse skills of your team, whatever they may be, and keep in mind how valuable those skills really are!

And remember whether yours is a new team of one or an old team of many, run your team like a group of people, not a list of members.

Great article, I totally agree. In fact I would suggest that you need 3 key personality types to start a clan to have a solid core (of which to build on) and that is someone who’s technical (creation of the stuff you use), someone who’s personal who can keep discussions interesting and lively and third someone who can lay down the law, if required. It’s really diversity of personalities that makes being a part of a clan fun.
